The Portbyhan Hotel in West Looe was in charge of the catering on the Looe Valley Line’s popular ‘Munchtime Express’ on Tuesday, 11 November.

Running on Tuesdays in November, the award winning “Munchtime Express” is an event to raise the profile of the Looe Valley Line and local restaurants.

The month-long promotion sees a different restaurant board the train each week to offer passengers free samples of their food to enjoy, while travelling the scenic line from Looe to Liskeard and back.

“Munchtime Express” regular, The Old Sail Loft in Looe catered to a packed train of eager foodies for the first trip last Tuesday. After next Tuesday, further “Munchtime Expresses” are planned on 18 and 25 November.

Organiser, Rebecca Catterall of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership said:
“Once a year on the Looe Valley Line, there is such a thing as a free lunch! Come along and sample some great food from local restaurants as well as enjoying the scenery on this lovely line.”

First Great Western’s General Manager West David Crome said:

“First Great Western is committed to supporting the communities we serve and, surrounded by some of the best ingredients in the World, we are happy to announce the return of the Munchtime Express.

“Following the ethos of our Pullman Dining, and the recent launch of four more Pullman services, what better way to keep people moving than to let them do so while discovering some of the hidden food gems in their area, with produce cooked and presented by our own local restaurateurs.”

The train will leave from Looe station at 12.47 on the 4, 11, 18, 25 November for one round trip, arriving back at 13 50. Normal train fares apply. An Adult Off Peak Day Return fare from Looe to Liskeard is £4.10. This fare gives unlimited off peak travel for the day on the line, so would also allow travel from Liskeard to join the “Munchtime Express” for no extra cost.
