Train operator raises £650 for Wales Air Ambulance
A cheque for more than £350 has been presented to the Wales Air Ambulance thanks to First Great Western (FGW) staff, with the promise of another £300 on the way.
A cheque for more than £350 has been presented to the Wales Air Ambulance thanks to First Great Western (FGW) staff, with the promise of another £300 on the way.
The Wales Air Ambulance is a favourite with FGW colleagues, especially those based in Cardiff and Swansea. Customer Service Manager Dave Bailey, from Swansea, said:
“They’re a wonderful charity and they do so much for people in our region. I’m not surprised they were a popular choice with the staff and I’m thrilled we presented them with a cheque today."
The money was raised after FGW decided to donate £1 to charity for every member of staff who completed an annual staff survey. £3726 was raised in total, to be split between eight charities.
Since the cheque presentation, a number of additional events have taken place in the region, raising a further £300 for the Welsh Air Ambulance. Events included a static bike ride with guest appearances from local DJ’s and the air ambulance’s very own mascots Biggles and Hue Hems.
Collecting the cheque on behalf of the Wales Air Ambulance, Community Co-ordinator Paul Canning said:
“We’re delighted at the efforts everyone at First Great Western has made to raise money for us. As we rely entirely on donations to fund our service that costs over £6 million per year to run, this money will go towards keeping the helicopters in the skies and allow us to continue saving lives."
