Rail journeys to be affected by engineering works in the North Cotswolds

Great Western Railway services will be affected by rail improvement work taking place this summer on the North Cotswolds route.

Network Rail will replace track on the North Cotswolds route during August, and as a result train services between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh will be affected from Monday 12 to Thursday 15 August:

  • Trains will still run between London Paddington and Charlbury via Oxford
  • Limited trains will run between London Paddington and Hereford via Swindon
  • Trains will run between Moreton-in-Marsh and Worcester/Great Malvern/Hereford
  • Replacement buses will operate between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh

Billy White, GWR Station Manager for Oxford, Didcot and North Cotswolds, said:

“This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance, helping to ensure we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.

“GWR will provide rail replacement services between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh, which will reduce the parking spaces available at those stations.

“For customers in the Moreton-in-Marsh area, the car park at Kingham station by contrast will have many more parking spaces available.

“Ticket acceptance has also been agreed to enable customers to travel on other train services between London and Worcester, Great Malvern or Hereford.

“However, these alternative travel arrangements via Birmingham or Bristol Parkway will make journey times much longer, so please check before you travel.”

Mark Parker, Lead Portfolio Manager for Network Rail, said:

“Track renewals are an essential part of maintaining the railway and our work is vital to provide smooth and safe journeys.

“We’re sorry for the disruption this will cause and thank passengers for their patience.”
