Rail journeys affected by essential engineering works: Check before you travel

Great Western Railway services will be affected by improvement work taking place at weekends during October.

Network Rail plans to replace tracks in the Cheltenham, Worcester and Southampton areas.

Train services will be impacted between Gloucester and Worcester on the weekends of 5/6 and 12/13 October, Sunday 20 October and until 1100 on Sunday 27 October:

  • Replacement buses are planned by GWR between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa/Worcester Foregate Street
  • Buses are also planned to replace CrossCountry trains between Birmingham New Street and Gloucester, plus between Bromsgrove and Cheltenham Spa

Train services between Worcestershire Parkway and Great Malvern are also impacted by engineering work on the weekend of 12/13 October and Sunday 20 October.

Elsewhere, all trains will be impacted via Southampton Central on the weekends of 5/6, 12/13, 19/20 and 26/27 October:

  • GWR trains will still run between Romsey and Fareham but will use an alternative route stopping at Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh
  • Replacement buses are planned between Eastleigh and Southampton Central

GWR Customer Services Director Rachel Geliamassi said:

“This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance, helping to ensure we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.

“To keep people moving as quickly and efficiently as we can however, while this work is completed buses will replace trains and journey times may be a little longer, so please do check before you travel.”
