Bedwyn Railway Station A First Great Western train entering Bedwyn station First Great Western is delighted to announce almost £40,000 of improvement works at Bedwyn Station have begun.

The work will provide an increase of marked station off street bay car parking, adding 23 off street parking spaces, and improving access to The Knapp.

Wiltshire Council secured Government funding through its Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) project to create the additional parking spaces as part of a partnership project with First Great Western.

The project has also funded a new cycle shelter and ticket vending machine, installed last August.

First Great Western’s Bedwyn Station Manager Alison Stone said:

“First Great Western recognises the key role that rail travel has in supporting the local and national economy and we are delighted to be able to start this work to improve access to this station and the full range of services we offer.

“During the previous franchise over £85 million has been invested across our network of 210 stations, by working with rail industry partners, the DfT, and local authorities.”

The improvement works are being funded by Wiltshire Council and First Great Western, and are supported by the Bedwyn Rail User Group.

Claire Perry MP for the Devizes Constituency said:

“I am delighted that First Great Western has started the work to provide more off-street car parking spaces at Bedwyn Station which will be a really positive move for rail passengers and local residents.”

Horace Prickett, Wiltshire Council portfolio holder for transport said:

“The £4.25m we received has helped support additional train services and provide better facilities at rail stations, including new waiting shelters, travel information, footways and cycleways, and cycle racks to make using the train a more attractive option for travellers than taking a private car. This is supported by the development of our Connecting Wiltshire travel website which provides helpful information on all modes of transport across Wiltshire.”

The work is due to complete at the beginning of the New Year.
