First Great Western customers are being advised to check before they travel this weekend as Network Rail carry out essential track maintenance works throughout Devon and Cornwall.

From Saturday 12 October to Sunday 20 October, road transport will replace trains from Exeter St Davids, Crediton and Barnstaple.

Once complete, this will mean more reliable services and fewer delays for customers. To allow for the track renewal work between Eggesford and Portsmouth Arms, trains will terminate at Crediton and customers will be able to use the rail replacement service from there to Barnstaple.

From Monday 14 to Saturday 19 October rail services between Exeter St Davids and Crediton will be hourly throughout the day with reduced services on mornings and evenings. On Sundays 13 and 20 October, a two hourly service will operate. On all days, customers will be served by bus services between Exeter to Barnstaple and Barnstaple to Exeter in the early mornings and late evenings.

Journey times on the route will be increased for the duration of the works, however First Great Western has planned rail replacement services to ensure customers make their rail connections.

On Sunday 13 October only a revised timetable will be in operation between Plymouth and Penzance:

Rail replacement buses will operate between Plymouth and St Austell (direct) and between Bodmin Parkway, Lostwithiel, Par and St Austell.

  • A revised train service will be in operation between Truro and Falmouth Docks – to maintain connections at Truro with St Austell and Penzance services
  • The railway line between Par and Newquay will also be closed, with replacement buses in operation between Newquay, St Austell and Plymouth and between Newquay and all stops to Par
Customers are advised to check journey times before travelling. For more information please visit our website or view the Summary of timetable changes.
