GWR offering free travel to customers of Oxford London coach service
Customers of an Oxford to London coach service being withdrawn in January can travel for free with Great Western Railway.
The train operator has stepped in to offer existing X90 customers a free, seven-day standard class off-peak trial of its Oxford to London Paddington service.
Oxford Bus Company announced at the beginning of October it would be withdrawing its X90 service from 4 January, 2020, because it was no longer viable.
Existing X90 season-ticket holders who purchased a time-based ticket before 5 November are invited to email X90_Offer@gwr.com with their contact details to qualify for free travel with GWR.
Standard class off-peak travel between Oxford and London Paddington will be available from 00:01 on Sunday, 5 January, until 23:59 on Sunday, 12 January.
GWR sales and marketing director Phil Delaney said:
“We appreciate customers of the X90 service will now be looking at alternative travel arrangements and welcome them to take up this offer of a free trial.
“Following the introduction of our new timetable on December 15, customers will be able to enjoy faster and more frequent journey times between London and the North Cotswolds. The fastest journey time between Oxford and London Paddington will be just 44 minutes, with typical journey times of 55 minutes.”

The trial will be available to existing X90 season-ticket holders and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Time restrictions for this offer will be in place Monday-Friday. Customers travelling to London may use any direct GWR service from 0900. Those travelling to Oxford may use any direct GWR service after 0920 and before 1630 and again after 1920 until end of service. Customers travelling at weekends may use any direct GWR service between Oxford and London at any time.
The offer will only apply to direct journeys between Oxford and London Paddington – break of journeys will not be permitted. Customers must adhere to National Rail Terms and Conditions of Travel and any instruction given from a railway official at all times. This offer does not entitle the holder to any form of Delay Repay or other potential compensation from GWR.
