Gloucester station pedestrian crossing reopens

The Bruton Way pedestrian crossing at Gloucester station has reopened today Tuesday 17 September following completion of the current stage of car park improvements.

The first 50 spaces in the newly resurfaced car park will also be opened along with disabled parking bays, taxi pick-up and cycle racks, with both Metz Way and Bruton Way junctions opened.

Work continues on the car park to complete vegetation clearance and safety fencing, and the full car park opening is scheduled for Tuesday 22 October.

GWR committed to re-opening the pedestrian crossing as quickly as possible and this will mean customers now have easier access to the station.

The partial opening of the car park will allow for it to be used for rail replacement buses during weekend engineering work in September and October.

Work on the underpass continues with painting, lighting and CCTV installation to be completed.

The new, southern car park will provide 141 spaces when fully reopened and was closed in October 2023 to facilitate the redevelopment and upgrade of the station forecourt and car park.

Parking continues to be available in the northern car park on Great Western Road. If the overflow car park was full, provision was made for those looking to park for extended periods at the council’s pay and display car parks nearby.

The project is the next phase in the development and improvement of the station and is jointly funded by GFirst LEP, GWR, Network Rail, Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucester City Council and the Department for Transport.
