Track renewal-2

Engineering work will affect weekend rail journeys in South Gloucestershire this July

Track upgrades will affect train services between Bristol Parkway and Gloucester on four successive weekends during July.

Great Western Railway as well as CrossCountry trains will be affected on the weekends of 1/2, 8/9, 15/16 and 22/23 July.

  • Replacement buses are planned to operate between Bristol Parkway, Yate, Cam & Dursley and Gloucester
  • CrossCountry trains between Bristol Parkway and Cheltenham Spa will use a different route, stopping additionally at Newport and Gloucester and extending journey times by approximately an hour and 20 minutes
  • Replacement buses are also planned between Stroud and Gloucester on the weekend of 1/2 July, plus between Kemble and Gloucester until 1115 on Sunday 9 July

Marcus Deegan, GWR Station Manager for Bristol Parkway and Swindon, said:

“These track improvements are part of an ongoing programme of work that will enable us to maintain services for customers travelling through South Gloucestershire.

“We will provide alternative road transport as well as working with other train companies to ensure customers can still continue their journeys during these weekends.”

The track renewals due to take place in South Gloucestershire will help Network Rail to ensure the ongoing safe operation of a key route for rail users.

Mark Parker, project manager for Network Rail, said:

“We appreciate the understanding of passengers, freight operators and lineside neighbours while we carry out these essential upgrades.

“Our work will make journeys more reliable and improve safety on this key route.”
