£810k work to Tiverton Parkway delivers extra 186 parking spaces

Great Western Railway has completed the £810k work to open a new car park at Tiverton Parkway Station.

Once an emergency coach park after the collapse of the Dawlish sea wall in 2014, the new 186 space car park will allow even more people to take advantage of the railway for work, business and leisure.

The first completed project in the railway company’s promise to deliver an extra 2,100 parking spaces in the next three years, the car park was officially opened by Devon County Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, with GWR’s Commercial Development Director Matthew Golton.

Matthew Golton said:

“GWR is dedicated to supporting the communities it serves and this car park shows what we can achieve working together; with the County Council, the Department for Transport, the Peninsula Rail Task Force, Mid Devon District Council and local land owners.

“More and more people are turning to rail for their local and long distance journeys; to meet this demand we have improved our timetable; improved our reliability and we have brand new Intercity Express Trains on order.”

The car park was officially opened on Thursday 3 November. GWR is currently working on plans to improve facilities at Exeter, Plymouth, Castle Cary and Taunton.
