What’s your emergency?
Great Western Railway (GWR) has hosted the first of two emergency services days, at Slough and Maidenhead stations.
The initiative has been organised by GWR Gateline Assistant Mark Whitaker, a volunteer firefighter in his spare time.
Mark said:
“As a Fire Service volunteer, community engagement and ensuring people are safe in their households is high on my priorities. If one person goes home after these events to test their alarm, that may be one life saved.”
The free events feature stalls for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), British Transport Police (BTP), South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Thames Valley Police (TVP).
Visitors will be welcome to see a wide range of vehicles, appliances and equipment from the emergency services who work closely together to make the Thames Valley a safer place for our customers.

There will be opportunities to meet Young Firefighters, a youth initiative that teaches essential life skills to young people in the community, and the BTP will also be running a bike security marking service.
Members of the emergency services will be on hand to answer questions and give an insight into their lifesaving work.
The two events have had the support of local MP Tan Singh Dhesi.
He said:
“It’s wonderful to see GWR supporting the initiative of their member of staff, Mark Whitaker, and to invite the public to meet and learn more about our local emergency services.
“The offers of bike security marking, fire safety advice and even first aid advice is hugely beneficial to our local residents to help keep them safe. Thanks to the British Transport Police, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Thames Valley Police, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Slough NHS for your invaluable work, and to Mark at GWR for making it happen.”
The first event was held at Slough Station on Tuesday 30 July; and the second event is to be held at Maidenhead Station on Tuesday 20 August from 1500 to 1900.
