Henley Royal Regatta 2016: Travel advice

Port or Starboard seat? Either oar. Over 60 extra trains a day will be operated by Great Western Railway (GWR) to support the Henley Royal Regatta, starting on Wednesday 28 June. With the five-day regatta continuing until Sunday 2 July, GWR will provide a total of 312 extra trains to cater for the estimated 34,000 extra customers – that’s more than double the number who take the train to Glastonbury. Oarsome.

Over 60 extra trains a day will be operated by Great Western Railway (GWR) to support the Henley Royal Regatta, starting on Wednesday 28 June.

On the Friday and Saturday 65 extra trains will run each day between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames, maintaining the crewcial branch line connection from London Paddington.

But services are expected to be busy and there is a stern warning to passengers to have their tickets ready to help the flow of people through the station. Those travelling are also warned that they may have to queue for a short prior to safely boarding trains.

Henley-on-Thames Station Manager Alison Hanscomb states that customers may need to be patient on the busiest days and can help by having their rail ticket ready as they come to leave Henley-on-Thames station.

Alison said:

"We are delighted to be able to provide these additional services, in support of the world-renowned Henley Royal Regatta.

“While our friendly and approachable staff will be on hand to help keep people moving, I would urge passengers to allow time for their journeys, as a queuing system will be in place at both Twyford and Henley to allow passengers to board trains safely.”

Branch line stations have made customers aware of changes to services, however those commuting towards London Paddington are advised to check before they travel as there are alterations to the usual timetable.
