GWR grant to fund accessible toilet at Crediton Station Tea Rooms
A project to install an accessible toilet and washroom at Crediton Station Tea Rooms has received a £5,000 grant from Great Western Railway.
The tea rooms are leased by The Turning Tides Project, which aims to make equal access a reality for people with a learning disability or autism labels.
As part of GWR’s franchise agreement with the Department for Transport, the train operator is committed to improving accessibility at stations.
Alongside the tea rooms, which provides volunteering opportunities and supported employment, TTTP leads a wide range of arts, music and community sessions in and round the building.
TTTP Director Jane Williams said:
“This funding will help towards providing the only fully-accessible tea rooms/café in our community, providing easy-access toilet and washroom facilities on the main GWR North Devon route and on the main bus route, thus extending our ability to create equal access to everything we provide in our local community.”
GWR Mobility and Inclusion Manager Neil Craig said:
“Many of the people who are part of The Turning Tides Project use wheelchairs and require hoists and personal assistance to access the toilet. This funding will help to deliver much-needed improvements for those accessing such an important project in North Devon.”
