Cornwall Pride set to shine bright with help from GWR

Train operator Great Western Railway will be giving Cornwall Pride partygoers the star treatment this weekend.

Train operator Great Western Railway will be giving Cornwall Pride partygoers the star treatment this weekend.

Customers stepping out at Newquay station will be greeted by a galaxy of Pride stars along the platform, plus rainbow-coloured bunting, an inflatable arch and GWR staff handing out special Pride goodies.

It’s all part of GWR’s continued sponsorship of Pride festivities this summer, in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

This Saturday’s Cornwall Pride will see thousands gathering at Newquay’s Beach Road Car Park from 1100 for a Pride Parade. The parade starts at midday and proceeds through the town to its finale at Killacourt at 1300.

Rainbow Fest then swings into action at Killacourt, with stacks of fun for families to enjoy including live music, stalls, face painting and hot and cold food.

A Moonbow Party finishes off the day in style, with live music and entertainment keeping the fun going from 2000 until late.

GWR is delighted to be involved in Pride, promoting equality in the communities it serves. The train operator has invested more than £20,000 in 11 Pride events and supported travel to nine more.

GWR Business Assurance Director Joe Graham said:

“GWR is proud to sponsor Cornwall Pride this year. As a key part of our network, and home to many of our customers and colleagues, we are delighted to be able to show our support to the LGBTQ+ community here.

“We are committed to making GWR a more inclusive organisation where people feel they can be themselves, and where our workforce is as diverse as the customers and communities we serve. Don’t forget to stop by at the GWR stall to meet some of our team.”

Cornwall Pride chairperson Matthew Kenworthy Gomes said:

“Cornwall Pride boasts a large, outreaching voice and we are incredibly grateful for the support of GWR in helping us to make such a big impact.

“What Cornwall Pride offers is acceptance – our motto says it all: ‘Be who you want to be and love who you want to love’. That’s not just about the LGBTQ+ community but about everyone … and everyone celebrating that together.”

Don’t forget, if you spot the #trainbow train out and about on the rail network this summer or attend a Pride on the GWR network, share a picture using #trainbow on Twitter or Instagram and the company will pick a winner every month throughout the summer to receive a pair of First Class Return tickets for travel on GWR services.
