Great Western Railway is warning Plymouth Argyle fans travelling to Wembley for the League 2 Play-off Final that services are expected to be extremely busy, and are advising passengers to travel to and from the game as early as possible.

To help take supporters to the game GWR is extending some high speed trains, so that trains which would usually start in Bristol will be extended to start at Plymouth.

For the return journey two services that would normally terminate at Bristol are to be extended to Plymouth and a service that would normally terminate at Exeter is also being extended to Plymouth.

With Bank Holiday weekend travel to and from the South Coast in demand, and Network Rail engineering work taking place in the London Thames Valley, the ability to provide additional services is limited.

GWR General Manager East David Crome said:

“With a high number of reservations on existing direct services to London Paddington before and after the game, we can expect trains to be extremely busy.

“To accommodate as many Plymouth fans as possible, we advise passengers to travel towards London as early as possible; and to return a soon as possible after the game.”

The return services will depart from London Paddington and travel on to Plymouth via Bristol Temple Meads at 19.07, arriving at 2252; and 19.27, arriving at 2332; and to Plymouth via Exeter SD at 18.30.

We understand some customers have chosen to stay in London overnight and take advantage of quicker journey times the following morning.
